Route made of frequent ups and downs, practicable by everyone with any type of bicycle. The view of the sea and the lagoon is a constant behind every curve and matches two villages of Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole with the beautiful Giannelle beach.
We leave immediately towards Porto Santo Stefano, a panoramic seaside town with two ports, from which you can reach the Islands of Giglio and Giannutri. It overlooks a bay dominated by forts, including the Spanish Fortress built between the end of the 1500s and the beginning of the 1600s. Today, it hosts a museum and an exhibition area. There are many bars and restaurants along the seashore.
We continue crossing the Tombolo of the Giannella is a strip of land 6 km long, located between the Tyrrhenian Sea and Orbetello Lagoon. The beach is sandy and the waters are shallow. In the area known as Saline, next to the Albegna River, you can find the Spanish forts of ‘Forte delle Saline’ and ‘Casale Spagnolo’.
Finally we reach Porto Ercole with his historic center surrounded by the walls from the XV century and features the evocative Santa Barbara Square, from where you can admire the harbor. The surroundings are characterized by a series of forts and towers, including Forte Stella, Forte Filippo, Forte Santa Caterina and Torre del Mulinaccio. Along the seashore you will find many bars and restaurants.
