From the resort we descend to Sferracavallo along an asphalted road for about 6 km. Then, we take an off-road path that runs along the Paglia river for 4 km, until we reach the inhabited center of Ciconia, where we enter the SS71 for another 7 km until the crossroad for Poggio Montone.
From an altitude of 150 meters, we cycle uphill for about 12 km of white road until we reach a height of 320 m in the locality of La Sala, surrounded by the endless vineyards of the Antinori – Castello della Sala Farm (about 160 hectares of
vineyards). A small detour allows us to pass by the farm’s beautiful wine cellar and the remarkable, 4th century La Sala Castle.
We then return to our route and reach the Badlands – I Calanchi, spectacular sandstone formations. We travel upon the crests with overhanging passages on the breathtaking ridges for about a kilometer. Now, we prepare to tackle the most technical part of this route: a steep descent on an off-road trail that takes us back to an altitude of 170 m in less than 1 km. After a stretch on the plain and a small passage through water to tackle, a new climb awaits us, short but demanding; in just 2 km we reach an altitude of 260 m. From here we descend to Allerona Scalo and cover 15 km along a flat, asphalted road back to Sferracavallo.
Once we reach Sferracavallo, we take a turn for Rocca Ripesena and head back to the resort, ready to face the last climb: 5 km of asphalted road with a difference in altitude of about 160 m.
