The Martesana cycle path is a 36 km-long cycle and pedestrian route connecting Milan to Trezzo sull’Adda, following the course of the Naviglio della Martesana canal. It is one of the most popular and appreciated cycle paths in northern Italy, ideal for an open-air cycling trip, immersed in nature and history.
The route runs along a flat and well-marked track, suitable for cyclists of all levels. It starts in Milan, in the Melchiorre Gioia area, where the cycle path connects to the city’s cycle network. From here, we proceed eastwards, along the Naviglio della Martesana canal and through the suburbs of Milan.
We then enter the Lombardy countryside, cycling through cultivated fields, farmsteads and historic villas. The route touches some pretty towns, such as Cernusco sul Naviglio, Cassano d’Adda and Vaprio d’Adda, where it is possible to stop for a break or a visit.
The route ends in Trezzo sull’Adda, where you can admire the charming medieval bridge crossing the Adda river.
